It’s been 21 years since Birmingham Poetry Review from the University of Alabama first published one of my poems. They also published one in 2006. And now they have accepted a third poem. This one is based on the premise that my artist lover is a tetrachromat. It’s a bit of a stretch to call Jane Shoenfeld a tetrachromat, but her sense of color, as evidenced in her pastel paintings is extraordinary. A tetrachromat is a person who has inherited an extra type of cone that allows perception of a fourth dimension of colors rather than three, as in most people. Tetrachromats are often daughters of color blind men.
